Hello and welcome to our Religion 8 homepage! This is a safe space where we will explore and learn more about the Catholic faith and how we can bring god into our daily life! On this page I will share videos, handouts, activities, notes and other course material I feel helps us learn better throughout the year! I've also included a link to our Google Classroom below where we will participate in online discussion and I will post various assignments!
UNIT 1 - WE BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Where Do You Expect To Find God?
Where Can I Find God
This vodcast really opens up some great questions and opportunities for conversation...
- Do you REALLY think that it's easy to "find God"? Why or why not?
- If God already knows what we are thinking and planning to do before we do it, why does he keep allowing us to do "stupid" things? Wouldn't it be easier for him to interfere?
- Will God REALLY change the world for the better when we ask? Why do you think terrible things still happen? Is there really a DIVINE plan?

In your group, read about your "Fruit of the Spirit" on Pages 21-24. You will become an expert on this Fruit.
- Read through the pages, and come up with a definition for the fruit of the Holy Spirit assigned to you. Determine the "true" and false" ideas of each. Eg: "True love is..." "False love is..."
- Come up with examples through images of how people can demonstrate the fruits.
- As a group, decide on a song (can be current popular music or classic) or create your own to include in your presentation. Explain how it fits. Keep in mind that you will only be allowed to use a radio edit if your song contains language not appropriate for sharing.
- Create a short clip/skit that demonstrates this fruit.
- Find a scripture passage that discusses the fruit.

- How might YOU bring your life back into balance (what can you do to support the development of your fruits)?

UNIT 4 - THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS
The 10 Commandments are fundamental obligations or "rules" that lead us through our lives as we journey toward God, through ourselves and with others.
As our lives change, the 10 Commandments teach us different things and take on new meanings.
Individual Sin Individual sin is personal. It is a decision WE make that goes against the truth that is God. Sin is a DELIBERATE refusal to pay attention to the rules and guidelines set by the 10 Commandments and the Church. Our CONSCIENCE is what prevents us from sinning, and requires development. Social Sin Social sins are the structures and accepted practices in our society that make it hard for people to avoid sin. Social sins include unjust policies throughout the world. ACTIVITY Was there anything that surprised or shocked you? How will this information change your consumer behaviour? Do you think there is a need to change consumer behavior, or should there be a change in corporate behavior (Explain)? Assessment Luke 15: 11-32: the Prodigal Son OR YouTube Video1) What did the prodigal son do to seek reconciliation (restoration)? 2) What did the father do to seek reconciliation (restoration)? 3) Does this story mean that we can do whatever we want because God forgives us anyway? Assignment You (and your partners) will re-write the story of the prodigal son in a modern context. You will create this as a picture book, video or any other way that interests you that you MAY end up sharing with the younger students at the school. |
