Science in your Backyard
A presentation by Derek Larson, Vertebrate Palaeontologist and Assistant Curator for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum
This 30-45 minute presentation for students of all grades aims to introduce the concept of the scientific method by hypothesis-testing. The presentation will explain how everyone uses the scientific method in their daily lives in informal settings to learn about their surroundings and solve problems. The presentation will then go into examples of activities that students can do to actively become involved in science, including volunteering locally and participating in one of the many citizen science projects online. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer session about science with museum scientist Derek Larson. This presentation is free, will be delivered at schools upon request, and can be tailored to schools depending on the size and age of the group. For more information or to schedule a presentation, please contact Derek Larson at [email protected] or phone 587-771-0662 ext. 405.
